Na het uitbrengen van zijn solodebuutalbum Human Racing in februari 1984, ging de carrière van Kershaw in een stroomversnelling. Hij bracht acht singles uit die in de Top 40 van het Verenigd Koninkrijk terechtkwamen Singles Chart gedurende het decennium, waaronder "Wouldn't It Be Good", "Dancing Girls", "I Won't Let the Sun Go Down on Me", "Human Racing", "The Riddle", "Wide Boy", "Don Quichot" en "Als een hart klopt". Kershaw-vervolg album The Riddle kwam slechts negen maanden later uit en hij verscheen op het live-concert met twee locaties in 1985
